Turkcell, Yapay Zeka Zirvesi’ne Ev Sahipliği Yaptı
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunications Networks Focus Group (FG-AINN) held its first in-person meeting in Istanbul. The event was hosted by Turkcell. Key attendees included Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu, President of the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) from Turkey, and Seizo Onoe, Director of the ITU Standardization Bureau, along with over 100 representatives from various sectors around the globe.
In his opening remarks, Turkcell CEO Dr. Ali Taha Koç emphasized the significance of AI-based solutions in digital infrastructures. He highlighted that hosting such meetings in Turkey is no coincidence.
Koç stated that next-generation network structures equipped with autonomous decision-making mechanisms create a more efficient communication environment with latency-free connections. He expressed that this transformation is backed by Turkcell’s extensive R&D efforts and contributions to next-generation technologies. He also pointed out that ongoing research in areas such as quantum technology, 6G, and artificial intelligence is poised to elevate current standards.
The event was held on April 14, World Quantum Day. Koç noted that this historical coincidence carries significance. He discussed the impact of quantum technologies on communication infrastructures and revealed that Turkcell is the first and only company from Turkey to join the international working group focusing on cryptography solutions developed under GSMA, which prepares for the post-quantum era. He emphasized that Turkcell’s robust infrastructure is geared not only for today’s but also for future communication systems.
Seizo Onoe, Director of the ITU Telecommunications Standardization Bureau, highlighted that artificial intelligence is being integrated into global communication infrastructures and that the establishment of common standards is vital for the healthy progress of this process. Onoe stressed the critical importance of collaboration among entities operating in this field.
BTK President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu emphasized that AI-supported networks represent not only a technological leap but also a structural transformation across sectors. He indicated that this meeting in Istanbul aims to advance the definition, technical features, and potential application scenarios of AI-focused networks. Karagözoğlu concluded by stating that this transformation must be built through collective intelligence and collaboration.
